The floating Congregation

Imagem
In October 9th 1938, a Marian Congregation was founded in Majorca, composed of sailors from the nationalist warship "Velasco Melilla". One beautiful and moving solemnity gathered the founders of the "floating" Congregation around the altar of the Immaculate Conception, where R. P. Hostalet, S. J., Chaplain of the Belonave, received the new Congregates, imposing on them the insignia and accepting the act of  consecration with which brave sailors dedicated themselves to Our Lady. There followed a festive session of cordiality and enthusiasm held in honor of the new  Maria n  Congregation  by the members of Catholic Action on the island of Mallorca. (In "Revista Estrela do Mar", April 1939, pp. 84-85)  NOTE: the "Estrela do Mar" magazine is a traditional Brazilian Marian sodality publication.

The Samurai of God

Imagem
Excerpts of the post "O Samurai de Deus" of the blog "O Apologeta Mariano" Known as the “samurai of Christ”, Justo Ukon Takayama was a brave warrior, a great evangelist and an honest politician. He was a feudal lord who preferred to abandon his country than to abandon his Lord Jesus Christ. Infancy Takayama was born in 1552, three years after the introduction of the Christianity in Japan by the Jesuit missionary Saint Francis Xavier (1506-1552). Takayama was 12 years old when a Catholic priest was brought to Sawa Castle, at the request of his father, Mr. Tomoteru, a man with religious concerns, who wanted to discuss the virtues of Buddhism with a Christian scholar. It was 1564, and 15 years had passed since a Portuguese ship first docked in Japan. Tomoteru analyzed the Christian proposal in depth and with determination and he liked it, and so he and his house were baptized. His son Takayama (whose real name was Hikogoro Shigetomo) was baptized with the name ...

The Medals

Imagem
Regarding the sodalities traditions, each country has its own symbols. Some congregates use  coloured scarfes and ribbons , other add medals to those. Brazilians, for example, use medals with images on both sides: Our Lady of Aparecida (Brazil patroness) and Our Lord Jesus Christ. Actually, there are many models for medals and ribbons to be used by Brazilian congregates, candidates and aspirants. Italian congregates , by their turn, use the Miraculous medal.

ACU: reviving Marian Sodalities in the U.S.

Imagem
At the end of the last year, there was a meeting of Jesuit and lay leaders of recently revived Marian Sodalities in the U.S.  " These Jesuit leaders have expressed significant interest in reestablishing Sodalities as communities of faith to promote in-depth Catholic formation to the youth of our time." Read more here at the ACU's (Agrupacion Catolica Universitária) website, as well as browsing "ACU Information" posts . NOTE 1 : there is a typo in the ACU's post, stating "Nov 23" (instead of "Nov 22", as read here ) as the meeting date.  NOTE 2: foi organizado um congresso para este mesmo tema (foto a seguir).

Our Lady receives his mantle from Brazil

Imagem
The image of Our Lady of Aparecida of an ICKSP mission in Mouila (Gabon) was missing his mantle, then they wrote a little letter and get one!   " Hail Holy Mary. The missionaries of Institute Christ the King need a mantle of Our Lady of Aparecida for Mission Saint Teresa of the Child Jesus located in Mouila (Gabon, Africa), the Gabonese love this picture because of the color and its beautiful history! The image was delivered by a Brazilian priest who was there for many years. In the name of Holy Charity they ask a group of benefactors help them exchange the mantle that is already well spent. United in prayer. In Christo Rege. Abbé Ruan Fernandes. " " Dear members of the Marian congregation Our Lady Help of the Christians and Saint Joseph 1 , located in Jacareí (Sao Paulo, Brazil), we thank you for your generosity in sending us a mantle of Our Lady of Aparecida.  After a long journey, the mantle arrived at the mission and, as you can see in the photo, the children are a...

Brazil meets Angola

Imagem
The President of the Brazilian Confederation of the Marian Congregations, Mr. Orlando Oliveira, has been talking with the MC Federation of Namibe (Angola).  See below the transcript of his conversations. "They ask for help, which is not financial. They ask for books, manuals, Rules of Life 1  and images of Mary to evangelize as well."   "The Federation of Namibe alone (it's a small diocese) has 2000 Marian congregates 2 ."   "Today I spoke with them via video, I already spoke via audio, calls, and we're going to do the exchange if it's Her will: the Governor, the Queen. And there was an invitation: they' will do the National Assembly in August (like we do in November), so that I could travel to Namibe, in Africa, for that assembly, and hold a conference with them. If it is Her will, we will be there.  "And we have the great intention (through Fabiana, our Director of International Relations for the Confederation [see side photo]) of w...

The coloured scarfes and ribbons

Imagem
We present here the scarfes used by some sodalities around the world. (Quintas Quessongo, Angola)   Greetings, Congregated Brothers. Today I share with you photographs of Our Marian Congregations in Angola. These belong to the south of Angola, specifically in the Diocese of Namibe, a province in the south of Angola. As you can see in the images, the young people gathered here use the scarf as a symbol of their commitment to Mother Beloved, Virgin Mary. These Symbols differentiate between blue for young congregants and green for beginners, that is, aspirants. Ribbons with the medal are only given to the elderly, especially those who are already married. There are young Congregates who also receive a ribbon, but it is rare, only in cases where the young man is married and has a certain reputation and maturity.                     (Thomas Murphy, Ireland)  We also have green ribbons for aspirants and blue ribb...

The Little Badge

Imagem
Excerpts of the post  presented by Alexandre Martins (Brazilian sodalist) at the blog "Apologeta Mariano". "In the fervor of the early twentieth century, the sodalities of Our Lady propagated due to various reasons. And, as an army of Mary, felt the natural need for increased organization. How to show the world the sodalities of Our Lady through just a symbol? It was the time of the Nazi swastika, the hammer and sickle of co mmunism, the sigma of the Integralists … sodalities of Our Lady could not shut up. The Brazilian badge [1] emerged in Rio de Janeiro (RJ) in the 1920s by drawing a carioca Marian Sodalist. How are Sodalists Marian Mary Queen of soldiers, knights are also hers. It is only natural that the format was a medieval shield. Was topped by three points, symbolizing the three cardinal virtues. Format gave his nickname by locals: the “ escudinho ” (the Little Badge). (...) In 1953 was founded in Rome the World Federation of sodalities of Our Lady. The Po...

Our Lady congregates from all around the world

Imagem
We've just started a international whatsapp group for Marian congregates! (also known as 'Our Lady sodalists')  We will present, in the next posts of this blog, messages there published. This group  was born, in the first place, from the desire to gather informally, at a world level, members of the different Marian congregations dispersed throughout the world. That communion had been possible with the World Federation, which however was suppressed in 1982, being renamed as " World Community " . From that time on, we were (in practical terms) restricted to national circles. Nowadays, however, with the availability of so many real-time interactive social resources, it is already possible for us to congregate on a global scale. That's how, in November/2019, we met the sodalist Thomas Murphy, from Ireland, who presents the program " Sodality of Hour Lady Radio Hour " , on Radio Maria Ireland (see the respective podcasts page ). Our whatsapp conversat...
