The floating Congregation

Imagem
In October 9th 1938, a Marian Congregation was founded in Majorca, composed of sailors from the nationalist warship "Velasco Melilla". One beautiful and moving solemnity gathered the founders of the "floating" Congregation around the altar of the Immaculate Conception, where R. P. Hostalet, S. J., Chaplain of the Belonave, received the new Congregates, imposing on them the insignia and accepting the act of  consecration with which brave sailors dedicated themselves to Our Lady. There followed a festive session of cordiality and enthusiasm held in honor of the new  Maria n  Congregation  by the members of Catholic Action on the island of Mallorca. (In "Revista Estrela do Mar", April 1939, pp. 84-85)  NOTE: the "Estrela do Mar" magazine is a traditional Brazilian Marian sodality publication.

The Samurai of God

Excerpts of the post "O Samurai de Deus" of the blog "O Apologeta Mariano" Known as the “samurai of Christ”, Justo Ukon Takayama was a brave warrior, a great evangelist and an honest politician. He was a feudal lord who preferred to abandon his country than to abandon his Lord Jesus Christ. Infancy Takayama was born in 1552, three years after the introduction of the Christianity in Japan by the Jesuit missionary Saint Francis Xavier (1506-1552). Takayama was 12 years old when a Catholic priest was brought to Sawa Castle, at the request of his father, Mr. Tomoteru, a man with religious concerns, who wanted to discuss the virtues of Buddhism with a Christian scholar. It was 1564, and 15 years had passed since a Portuguese ship first docked in Japan. Tomoteru analyzed the Christian proposal in depth and with determination and he liked it, and so he and his house were baptized. His son Takayama (whose real name was Hikogoro Shigetomo) was baptized with the name

The Medals

Imagem
Regarding the sodalities traditions, each country has its own symbols. Some congregates use  coloured scarfes and ribbons , other add medals to those. Brazilians, for example, use medals with images on both sides: Our Lady of Aparecida (Brazil patroness) and Our Lord Jesus Christ. Actually, there are many models for medals and ribbons to be used by Brazilian congregates, candidates and aspirants. Italian congregates , by their turn, use the Miraculous medal.

ACU: reviving Marian Sodalities in the U.S.

At the end of the last year, there was a meeting of Jesuit and lay leaders of recently revived Marian Sodalities in the U.S.  " These Jesuit leaders have expressed significant interest in reestablishing Sodalities as communities of faith to promote in-depth Catholic formation to the youth of our time." Read more here at the ACU's (Agrupacion Catolica Universitária) website, as well as browsing "ACU Information" posts . NOTE 1 : there is a typo in the ACU's post, stating "Nov 23" (instead of "Nov 22", as read here ) as the meeting date.  NOTE 2: foi organizado um congresso para este mesmo tema (foto a seguir).

Brazil meets Angola

The President of the Brazilian Confederation of the Marian Congregations, Mr. Orlando Oliveira, has been talking with the MC Federation of Namibe (Angola).  See below the transcript of his conversations. "They ask for help, which is not financial. They ask for books, manuals, Rules of Life 1  and images of Mary to evangelize as well."   "The Federation of Namibe alone (it's a small diocese) has 2000 Marian congregates 2 ."   "Today I spoke with them via video, I already spoke via audio, calls, and we're going to do the exchange if it's Her will: the Governor, the Queen. And there was an invitation: they' will do the National Assembly in August (like we do in November), so that I could travel to Namibe, in Africa, for that assembly, and hold a conference with them. If it is Her will, we will be there.  "And we have the great intention (through Fabiana, our Director of International Relations for the Confederation [see side photo]) of w
